I got an email earlier today inviting me to Easter lunch with the pastor and his wife and some of the other singles in the church. I said yes, grateful that now I don't have to figure out if I'm going to do anything special for the day or not. ;) (I'd had a couple of thoughts on the matter, but no decisions.)
I have to say, I'm very impressed so far at the way this church reaches out to those who are new and/or alone in the area (me being both :p). My very first Sunday there I had a couple give me their number if I needed anything and offer to use the husband's truck for furniture or whatever, if need be. The pastor himself also came to meet me that day, and encouraged me to fill out one of those little cards with my info for them... he then wrote me an email later in the week, saying thanks for coming, hope you come back again so we can get to know you better, etc. A few weeks ago there was a potluck (they call it a "carry-in dinner"), and the pastor and his wife encouraged me to sit with them, and made sure to introduce me to some of the people closer to my age. People who have introduced themselves before say hello every week, ask how I'm doing (I'm trying to learn their names as quickly as I can :p)... and now I'm invited for lunch on the first real holiday since I've moved away from home. It's quite nice of them, really. :o)
