I've been downloading and listening to more music lately since I've had my iPod, and I was thinking I should try sharing music on LJ more often, since I like it so much when other people do that. I don't have a website or a MegaUpload account or anything, so I'm using a basic YouSendIt account where the links will expire after a week. This makes me think I ought to try posting music once a week, say five songs every Friday or something like that. We'll see how it goes. Let me know if you have any trouble downloading these or if you have a suggestion for a better way of posting them. I might try themes later but today I just have five songs that I like: ( by REM, Paul Simon, Speech, and Gnawa Diffusion )

Hey you guys, round 5 of remixthedrabble is live!! It's the largest round yet, with 114 ficlets of between 100 and 1000 words in 47 different fandoms! (Yes, including LotR and The Faculty). We aren't doing anonymous posting this round, so I'll probably repost the fics I wrote here later today, but for now I'll just point you to their tag. I had three different people remix me in three different fandoms! I'm so excited! -emmademarais wrote Incense (The Honey Remix), a lovely sweet Kaylee/Inara off my first Firefly ficlet. (Did you hear that, gamerchick? OTP!) -greenapple wrote Climate Change a gorgeous poem in 100 words off a haiku series I did for haikuathon last year – the only Northern Exposure piece in the remix! -were_lemur wrote Let No One Put Asunder -- the Other Sister remix, Padma's POV on my Parvati fic, quiet and achy and very sisterly. Other remixees who might be on your f-lists include claudia603, rubynye and hyel. You can get to them through the Index post, tags, or memories (and to be updated soon: delicious), as you prefer. I'm sure all the authors would love to hear from you. Um, in other news, I have caved and gone back to a paid LJ account. Eh, my displeasure with their policies is no longer as strong as my desire for more archives and notification subscriptions. I feel like I gave a IJ a good try and I'll continue to crosspost there so I can have a backup of my journal, but my community's here on LJ and I'm here every day, so I figure I might as well pay a little bit for the service and enjoy myself more.

First of all, you've got one more week to tell us about your favorite Elijah/Ian fics before we move on to the next challenge. This is a rare pairing but there's a decent number of recs there so check out this post if you're interested. Secondly, we want to announce a change in the community rules. Over the years a lot of people (including elanorgardner and myself!) have been frustrated at not being able to rec their own fics. This is extra frustrating when you're talking about a rare pairing or for whatever reason there's very little response on a challenge, and you know of this really good fic (the one you wrote!) and you are prevented by talking about it by the Rules. On the other hand, we haven't wanted it to be the kind of community where people only talk about their own fics and don't actually make recs. A few days ago tweedle_ had the very clever suggestion of allowing members to do a self-rec on a challenge, but only after they've already recommended at least one fic by someone else. The more Elanor and I talked about this, the more we liked the idea. So, we're going to give this a try! Again, the new set up is that, if you want to, you can rec one of your own fics after you've recced at least one fic by someone else on the same challenge. We'd like it if you'd write "self-rec" in the subject line of that comment for clarity's sake. If you have any questions or other suggestions, this would be a good place to bring them up and we'll do our best to answer. And again, please don't forget about the Elijah/Ian challenge. Did you catch Bill O'Reilly on Thursday night's Daily Show? You can watch the whole show here or here but I was especially impressed with the second half of the interview. I mean, it's disturbing how amused Bill is over his own joke about Jon Stewart getting killed (WTF!?), but watch it for what Jon says about American traditions. Oh man I ♥ him so much.

Dear Yuletide Writer, THANK YOU SO MUCH for offering to write in one of these fandoms! I was refreshing the requested fandoms page a lot last week and it was so exciting to see other people offering to write these as well as requesting them. Maybe you are one of the other people who requested the same things as me and maybe we will get multiple stories! Or maybe you are just a generous person writing something you didn't request. Either way, this is going to be awesome and I will love what you do! I am pretty easy in that I like gen, boyslash, girlslash, and het, and I don't have a lot of squicks. So if you have a different idea from what I wrote in the details you should go with that! Last year (my first Yuletide) I wrote a longish letter about my general tastes in fic and that stuff all still holds.* This year I am just going to talk a little more about the fandoms I requested. They are all movies that are pretty easy to find so if you feel stuck on the one where we matched maybe you will feel like trying something else.
